What are Shopify metafields?
Shopify metafields are custom fields that store extra information on products, collections or customers, such as ingredients, dimensions or care instructions.
A real store example
Be Amazing vegan protein page: over 750 Meta ads linked here.
The page leads with numbers that differ for every product: 20g of protein and under 130 calories per serving. On a Shopify store, details like these are what metafields hold, so one product template can show the right facts for each product.
Put Shopify metafields to work
Ask Replo: "add an ingredients section to every product page".

Shopify metafields, explainedShopify metafields questions
- What are metafields used for?
- Anything Shopify doesn't have a built-in field for: ingredients, size charts, materials, care instructions, compatible models. Themes and page builders read them so each product page shows its own details.
- Do metafields help SEO?
- Indirectly. They don't rank on their own, but they let you show useful, specific details on every product page, and that content can help pages answer shoppers' searches.
