What is Shopify Magic?

Shopify Magic was Shopify's name for the free AI tools that write and edit inside your admin. Shopify now files them under Sidekick: its help center credits Sidekick for text generation, and shopify.com/magic redirects to the Sidekick page.

The tools work the same way. On pages that support it, a Generate text icon writes one field. Or ask Sidekick in chat to fill in the page, then review the fields it highlights before you accept.

What Magic leaves to you

It writes one field or page at a time. A description, a blog post or an email draft; the layout, the offer and which page an ad sends shoppers to stay with you.

Every draft needs a read. Shopify's own guidance says AI outputs can contain errors, so check facts, sizes and claims before you publish.

Images have limits. Monthly image limits depend on your plan and are shared across your store, and each reference image must be 15 MB or less.

How to get better copy from it

  • Name the shopper and the problem the product solves.
  • Give the facts: materials, size, fit, care and what's in the box.
  • Ask for a tone and a length, like 80 words, warm and plain.
  • Paste a description you like as a reference.
  • Ask for three versions and keep the best lines from each.
