Product title generator for Google Shopping
A product title is the name Google shows for your product in Shopping results, and the main text it uses to match it to searches. Pick your category and fill in what you know about the product. You'll get a title in the order shoppers scan it, laid on a ruler that shows what fits in the first 70 characters, and checked against Google Merchant Center's rules. For a whole feed, paste rows or drop a CSV (a Shopify product export works) and download every title.
Your product title
Fill in what you know about the product. The title builds in the order shoppers scan it, and is checked against Google’s rules as you type.
| Category | Order |
|---|---|
| Apparel and shoes | Brand + gender + style + material + product type, color, size |
| Beauty and personal care | Brand + key benefit or ingredient + product type, size, pack |
| Food and drink | Brand + flavor or variety + product type, weight, count |
| Home and furniture | Brand + style + material + product type, dimensions, color |
| Electronics | Brand + model + product type, key spec, color |
| Anything else | Brand + key feature + product type, size, color |
How to read your number
A Google Shopping product title is the title attribute in your product feed: up to 150 characters that Google uses both to match your product to searches and as the headline of the ad. Brand Northwind, women's, sleeveless, linen, wrap dress, black, medium becomes "Northwind Women's Sleeveless Linen Wrap Dress, Black, Medium": 60 characters, so shoppers see all of it.
Why it matters
Shopping ads have no keywords: Google decides which searches your product shows for largely from its title and description. A title that says "Wrap Dress" misses the shopper searching "black linen dress". Putting the words people search into the first 70 characters gets the product into more searches and gets it clicked.

Formula
Title = brand + what makes it different + product type, then attributes (color, size, pack)
Up to 150 characters; most shoppers notice only the first 70 or fewer, so the words that decide a click go first. Variant details such as size and color go in the title and in their own feed attributes.
Other ways to calculate product title generator for Google Shopping
- Apparel and shoes
- Brand + gender + style + material + product type, color, size
- Shoppers filter clothing by gender, size and color, so each belongs in the title as well as in its attribute.
- Beauty and personal care
- Brand + key benefit or ingredient + product type, size
- Searches name the ingredient or the problem ("vitamin c serum", "brightening"), so lead with it after the brand.
- Food and drink
- Brand + flavor or variety + product type, weight, count
- Flavor and size are what shoppers compare. Google's own example adds the flavor to the title when there's no attribute for it.
- Electronics
- Brand + model + product type, key spec, color
- Shoppers search by model number and spec, as in Google's example "Google Pixel 4 64 GB - Midnight Blue".
- Unknown brand
- Key feature + product type + brand, attributes
- When nobody searches your brand name yet, lead with what the product is and does; keep the brand in, later in the title.
Google Shopping title rules
- Length: 1 to 150 characters. Google cuts longer titles and shows a warning in Merchant Center.
- What shows: shoppers usually notice only the first 70 characters or fewer, depending on screen size.
- No promotional text: no price, sale price, sale dates, shipping or delivery dates. Put those in their own attributes.
- No gimmicks: no capital letters for emphasis, symbols, emoji, HTML tags or extra spaces.
- Match the page: the title should describe the same product, and variant, as the landing page it links to.
How to calculate product title generator for Google Shopping: a worked example
An apparel brand sells a sleeveless linen wrap dress from its Northwind line, in black, size medium. Its feed title is just "Wrap Dress".
- Brand + gender + style + material + type: Northwind Women's Sleeveless Linen Wrap Dress
- Then the variant: , Black, Medium
- Title: Northwind Women's Sleeveless Linen Wrap Dress, Black, Medium (60 characters)
- Under 70 characters, so the whole title shows, and no promotional text, capitals or symbols
The new title can match searches for "linen wrap dress", "black sleeveless dress" and "northwind dress", where "Wrap Dress" alone matched only the broadest one.
What makes a good product title?
A good title answers "is this what I searched for?" in the first 70 characters: the brand if people search it, the product type in plain words, and the one or two details that tell it apart. Then use the rest of the 150 for the attributes that match longer searches, such as size, material and pack count.
Test it the way you'd test a page. Change the titles of a group of products, keep a similar group as they are, and compare impressions and clicks in Merchant Center over a few weeks.

| Apparel and shoes | Brand + gender + style + material + type, color, size | Northwind Women's Sleeveless Linen Wrap Dress, Black, Medium |

| Food and drink | Brand + flavor + type, weight, count | Hearth Roasters Dark Roast Whole Bean Coffee, 12 oz, Pack of 2 |
| Home and furniture | Brand + style + material + type, dimensions, color | Oakline Round Solid Walnut Coffee Table, 36 in, Natural |
| Electronics | Brand + model + type, key spec, color | Volt Pulse 2 Wireless Earbuds, 40-Hour Battery, Midnight Blue |
Questions about product title generator for Google Shopping
- How long can a Google Shopping title be?
- Up to 150 characters. Google cuts anything longer and shows a warning in Merchant Center. Shoppers usually see only the first 70 or so, so put the brand, product type and main detail first.
- What should a Google Shopping product title include?
- The brand, the product type in the words shoppers search, and the details that set it apart, such as material, size, color, model or pack count. Leave out prices, sale text and shipping offers; Google doesn't allow them.
- Can I put "free shipping" or "sale" in a product title?
- No. Google's title rules forbid promotional text such as price, sale price, sale dates, shipping and delivery dates. Put them in the sale_price and shipping attributes instead.
- Should the brand go first in a product title?
- Yes, when shoppers search for your brand or it's a known name in your category. For a new brand nobody searches yet, lead with the product type and key feature, and put the brand later in the title.
- Is a product title the same as the title on my product page?
- Not necessarily. Your page's title can be short and on brand, while the feed title is longer and written for search. They must describe the same product, though, or Google may disapprove it.
