Why it matters
The emails a store sends on a trigger, like a welcome or a cart reminder, run every day without anyone writing them again. A clear draft for each one is the fastest way to get them live, and each one stays in place for every new subscriber and shopper.

Formula
Email = subject line + preview text + headline + one idea + one button
The subject line and preview text show in the inbox before anyone opens the email, so the preview should say the next thing rather than repeat the subject. The body makes one point and the button asks for one action.
What is an email template?
An email template is a reusable draft for one kind of email, such as a welcome or a cart reminder: the subject line, preview text, headline, body and button, with blanks for the store and product. Fill it once, and the same email can go to every new subscriber or shopper.
How to read your draft
Read the draft top to bottom the way a shopper does: the subject and preview text decide whether the email gets opened, the headline and first line decide whether it gets read, and the button is the one thing you want them to do. Pick the subject line that fits, then change any word that doesn't sound like you.
The five emails every store needs
- Welcome email: sent right after someone subscribes. Says who you are, points to one product to start with, and delivers any offer promised at signup.
- Abandoned cart email: sent a few hours after a shopper leaves items in the cart. Names what they left and answers the doubt that stopped them.
- Product launch email: sent the morning a product goes on sale. Leads with the one thing it does better, and links to a page built for the launch.
- Win-back email: sent when a customer hasn't ordered in longer than usual. Shows what changed and gives one reason to come back.
- Thank-you email: sent a day or two after the order ships. Helps the customer get the most from what they bought and asks for nothing yet.
A worked example: an abandoned cart email
A coffee roaster, Hearth Roasters, wants a cart reminder for shoppers who leave its Dark Roast Whole Bean Coffee in the cart. People buy it because it's roasted the week it ships. There's no discount in the first email.
- Email: Abandoned cart. Tone: Warm.
- Subject: The Dark Roast Whole Bean Coffee is still in your cart (54 characters, 11 words)
- Preview text: We saved your cart. The Dark Roast Whole Bean Coffee: roasted the week it ships.
- Body: names the product, gives the reason people pick it, and invites a reply with any question
- Button: Return to your cart
The first subject runs two words over Mailchimp's advice of 9, so the generator flags it; the second option, "Still thinking it over?", fits. The offer stays out of the first email, so shoppers who would buy anyway pay full price.
What makes a good store email?
One email, one job. A welcome email that also announces a sale, asks for a review and lists ten products does none of them well. Pick the one thing the reader should do next and make the button say it.
Then make it yours. Patterns get the structure right, but your customers buy from you because of how you talk about what you make. Read the draft out loud and change anything you wouldn't say.
| Sent | Its one job | |
|---|---|---|
| Welcome | Right after someone subscribes | Introduce the store and one product to start with |
| Abandoned cart | A few hours after a cart is left | Bring the shopper back to the cart |
| Product launch | The morning it goes on sale | Send readers to the launch page |
| Win-back | After longer than usual without an order | Give one reason to come back |
| Thank-you | A day or two after it ships | Help them get the most from the order |
Questions about store email templates
- Is this email generator free?
- Yes. It's free with no signup, and you can copy every draft into any email tool. Replo's own AI version, which writes from your store's products and brand, comes with a Replo account.
- Does this generator use AI?
- No. It fills fixed patterns for store emails with the store, product and offer you enter, so the same inputs always give the same draft. For an email written from your real products and brand, use Replo's AI email generator.
- How long should an email subject line be?
- Short. Mailchimp recommends no more than 9 words and 60 characters, since many people read on phones, where long subjects get cut. The generator counts both for each subject line and flags any that run over.
- What is preview text?
- The line that shows next to or under the subject in the inbox, before the email is opened. Use it to say the next thing, like the product or the offer, instead of repeating the subject.
- Should an abandoned cart email include a discount?
- Usually not in the first one. A reminder costs nothing, while a discount in the first email gives margin to shoppers who would have bought anyway. If you offer one, save it for the last email in the flow.
- Can I use these templates in Klaviyo or Shopify Email?
- Yes. Copy the subject, preview text and body into a new email in Klaviyo, Shopify Email, Mailchimp or any other tool, then add your logo, product image and link before you send it.
